Ayurveda is the holistic science and it aims at creating disease free and healthy society .
Its main aim is to maintain the health of a healthy individual and to cure the disease of the patient. i.e “Preservation, promoting , longevity to health of healthy person and treating ailments with breaking causative factors of pathogenesis”.

प्रयोजनं चास्य स्वस्थस्य स्वास्थ्यरक्षणमातुरस्य विकार प्रशमनंच|

Ayurveda is science to protect” ayus” i.e life . life is not merely years you lived or lifespan . "life" itself is defined as the "combination of the body, sense organs, mind and soul . So it guides about healthy living along with therapeutic measures which are not only confined to physical body but it involves perfect harmony between our physical, mental, social and spiritual facets or dimensions of life . In this medical science, health is not considered merely the absence of disease but state of perfect harmony between mind, senses, soul and body .

To maintain the health of a healthy person and cure the disease of a diseased, it guides us about both preventive and curative therapies .For promoting health it focuses on diet , nutrition , healthy lifestyles , positive code of conduct . social behaviour, seasonal regime , meditation, yoga , pranayam , naturopathy, rejuvenatives , herbs, aphrodisiacs and various other stabilizing techniques . So basically it is a science of life which takes into account persons social , psychological and spiritual layer of existence along with body.
